"Chemiluminescence" - An entry to the Odd Couple contest

Wait!!... before I yelled at, I'd like to clarify that I did get permission for this couple. I noted le clubbie myself and asked [I quote] "I know were not allowed to submit Rob/Rae pictures... but what about Nightwing/Raven pictures?" and ~farfie-kins (to my immense relief and enthusiasm) said it'd be okay. Besides, I really don't think about these two as Robin and Rave. They're two different sets of people, almost like a diffrent dimension. Robin is always in the spotlight, Nightwing likes the shadows. Raven is defiant and this Raven is lucid. And that adds to equal a totally different relationship and chemistry Heehee, I win :party:

Y'know, this is probably the first picture that I've done that I've been completely happy with in the end. For once, no doubts at all. Infact (however conceited it may sound) I actually put this as my desktop (hinthint800x600) So even if I don't win (although that would sooo freekin ROCK!!), I'm really happy with what I did here and very proud to show it off.

And as a final note, I dedicate this to my best buddy, Jordy, who always had a nice thing to say about this picture even when I didn't. Jordy, you a majorly "le suck"! ... but in exchange for that complement I get Nightwing (and Robin). Hahahaha!!! :evillaugh:

...Oi, you're kidding me! I could've done Nightwing/Rae??? -falls- Gah. That's so unfair. I already submitted my entry. -sulk-

Anyway. I know what you mean about comments giving you a fuzzy feeling. Sometimes I wish people who just fav my pictures would leave some kind of message. XD

You're absolutely right on the Nightwing and comic!Raven being completely different than Robin and show!Raven. Their relationship in the comics was different, too. I liked it a lot. -nodsnod-

In any case, onto the picture- first of all, I like that you colored the whole thing using different shades of one color, it looks superawesome and helps create a softer mood. Nightwing looks fantastic (and by fantastic I mean SO DARN HOT), I love the way you drew his hair and mask. Raven looks equally good, though her hand there is a positioned a little wonky. I love their expressions and poses, just a lot of detail and emotion. Gah- I adore this picture. ^^

Note- isn't Nightwing supposed to have his mask on all the way to the left there?

Wow. I think this is the longest comment I've ever recieved :D Yay! Warm fuzzies everywhere! But what to reply to first?

Yeah, Nightwing was s'posed to have a mask there, but in my fangirl fantasies I always wanted to drawn a de-masked Nightwing. And when I was done I just could not go back and draw the dang mask on him (sooo much work..!). Plus I was trying to make him look a little... vulnerable. He seems like a very in control person and being maskless was the first step in taking that control away. But when I put the shadows on him I kind of put them in the shape of the mask anyway. And how hot, right? Everytime I look at it *swoon*! Thanks, it's nice to know I'm not alone :D And Raven's hand is kinda funky intentionally. Yeah, I remember the first time my first boyfriend hugged me, I kinda just stood there with my hands up like 'Um, where do I put these?' So when I drew her hand I kinda wanted to put here in the same position, like 'Eep!'. Unless of course you actually mean the drawing of the hand... cause I did get a little lazy there :p Heehee, sowwy. Woo this reply has gotten quite long....

Fantastic. Very emotionative. The design of the overall picture is verynice. Did you exsperiment with layout or just have a good mental image of this when you started? Either way, it worked VERY well. The centeralizing of the characters and then the postitioning of exspressions really helped this.

Your coloring technique is very intresting. I can't quite figure it out, but I'm ADORING it. The fact that it's only two colors and thier tints and shades makes it look particuarly appealing to me. It looks almost....glassy? ...which would compliment the light.

THere'es nothing wrong with hacing Nightwing's mask off! *did that in one of her images as well. MUHHAHA!*

I wish I knew this couple was acceptable. I would have MADE time to enter, hehe. (Even though I'm a RobinxRaven fan I actually support NightwingxAdultRaven more so. ) Oh well! It's good to know for the future. Good luck!

Oh you won't believe how many times I experimented with the layout of this picture! I have a whole entire folder dedicated to backdrafts of this picture alone. Infact I'm pretty sure this was Chemiluminescence version 13. Yeah, thirteen. Woo. And that's not even counting the number of times I retraced the linework. This was originally set as three different pictures (the center picture, hen Nightwing's face and Raven's face). In the beginning I was just going to color this like a normal picture, but I just could not get it together that way. So I decided to go for a more watercolor feel. And I do admit I cheated a bit on the coloring technique. The final (or semi-final actually) colored piece was actually a kinda solemn black and blue (which I may submit one day). Then I started messing with the lights in Paintshop aaaand.... tada! Then I went back and detailed it like normal. Heh. I'm really glad you like it (ecstatic really, if only you could SEE me)! And thanks for the fav! And most importantly (well almost :)) thank you sooo much for commenting, I means alot to me! :hug:

Ha ha. When I saw the Nightwing/Raven I was like 'That's cheating! Now I gotta do it!' cuz honestly, I wasn't gonna do anything for that contest. But you have inspired me! Well, enough about my crazyness, I will now comment on the actual art. I think it's really well done. Me shall defanitly fav it.
